We have been very active since my last post!
Award winning author Stephen Booth visited the library as part of the 'Off the Shelf' event. It was a fantastic evening and was well attended. It was fascinating to hear Stephen talk about his writing process, his ideas and plans for the future. Everyone left with a smile on their face! Thank you to Stephen and to everyone who attended and made it such an enjoyable evening.
We now have a writers group. It meets every other Friday morning (see our Events page for more details). This group is run by our volunteer Sarah and everyone is welcome to join this friendly group.
Our Christmas Fayre was once again very successful. Thank you to everyone who came along and to all the volunteers who put in a lot of time and effort in arranging and putting on the event. Your support is greatly appreciated and is vital in keeping the library open.
As you may know we have our own 'FLLC' issuing system at Frecheville Library. We add good quality, relevant donated books and also brand new books that we buy each month in order to expand our selection. This system has been operating alongside the regular system for some time now and has proved very popular with users, for a lot of users it is the only place they look!! We have now reached a significant milestone in that over 1000 books, both adult, children, fiction and non-fiction have now been added to the system. The choice of books at Frecheville is ever expanding. Look out for the books with the 'FLLC' sticker on the spine to see what we have been up to. We are also expecting a large number of new books for the regular system soon as well.
In more good news, the currently paper based 'FLLC' system will soon be computerised! You can still use your regular library card as well.
Why not call in and take a look at our new titles. Quickly though as they soon fly off the shelves!
We are being decorated!! Over the Easter holiday Tim and Tom are decorating the inside of our library. It is going to be a lovely bright sunny yellow in the main section and multi coloured in the children's library area. I have seen it so far and it has made such a difference. It seems bigger and certainly lighter. Call in after Easter and have a look and let us know what you think. We are planning to make further improvements to the internal decor over the next few months.
On Friday we were privileged to have a visit from local crime writer Simon Beckett. The talk was well attended as part of the 'Off the Shelf' festival and was enjoyed by everyone. It was a fascinating insight into Simon's career and also his research and method of writing. We would like to thank Simon for his support. This event concluded our 60th Anniversary celebrations.
We also held a Magic Show with Craig Frith on Tuesday and a Quiz and Bingo night on Thursday. Thank you to Craig for the magic and also to Liz and Clare for organising the quiz and to Jean for her excellent bingo calling skills!
It has been a great week of events and we have been really pleased with the level of support from the local community. Due to numerous requests we will be looking to do more events like these in the near future.
